Governor Says Vermont Online Betting to Start in January

Governor Phil Scott announced that Vermont online betting will start on January 11. In addition, the Department of Liquor and Lottery selected FanDuel, Fanatics Sportsbook, and DraftKings to operate mobile betting in the state.

In June, he joined almost thirty other states in allowing online sports betting when he signed a measure into law in Vermont. According to a political news forum, the Vermont Legislature receives an annual report detailing the effects of sports betting on problem gambling from the Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery and the Vermont Department of Mental Health.

According to pay per head reports, operators must submit a responsible gaming strategy to the state. This plan must address topics such as self-exclusion programs, house-imposed player limitations, assistance for bettors with concerns about problem gambling, and the display of materials relating to problem gambling.

According to bookie PPH, Vermont will gain as much as $7 million from the sports betting operation in the first full year.

Commissioner Wendy Knight of Vermont's Department of Liquor and Lottery expressed her excitement about partnering with three leading organizations in the industry to allow sports fans to bet on sporting events in the state.

On Tuesday, operators can pre-register players and conduct marketing to prepare for the January debut.
