New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is against legalizing mobile NY sports betting. This is according to Senator Joseph Addabbo. In addition, the lawmaker disputed Cuomo’s claims that mobile sports wagering is unconstitutional.

Addabbo told gambling industry news reporters that he believed that mobile betting is not against the state constitution. Instead, the governor just doesn’t want it. Also, he said that Cuomo and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie are using the constitutionality of mobile betting as an excuse to stop gambling expansion.

Senator Addabbo filed a bill that will allow casinos to offer mobile NY sports betting. In addition, the bill will allow off-track betting parlors, sports facilities, and racetracks to offer mobile wagering. Governor Cuomo Making Excuses to Stop Mobile NY Sports BettingThe mobile NY sports betting bill didn’t get an approval from the Assembly before the legislature went on their Summer break. In fact, lawmakers gave legal opinions stating mobile betting through licensed casinos is constitutional. On the other hand, Cuomo can’t provide any evidence of why mobile sports betting is against the constitution.

According to a political forum, Addabbo and Assemblyman Pretlow’s mission is to get the governor’s true concerns about mobile sports betting. Also, they want the governor to stop making excuses.

In fact, the two lawmakers want to schedule a meeting with the governor to find out his real objection to the bill. In addition, Addabbo said the first objection is not the real one. They want to know what the governor has to say about the gambling issue.

Assemblyman Pretlow said 79 Democrats supported the mobile sports betting bill. It can easily pass the Assembly if only Speaker Heastie put the bill up for a vote. In addition, Heastie told Pretlow that he didn’t put it to the floor because the governor will just veto it.
