Governor Chris Sununu has good news for people who are waiting for the launch of New Hampshire sports betting. He told a political forum that he expects the state to accept its first bets by January.

The governor is optimistic that New Hampshire sports betting will launch before the end of the NFL season. Also, he said that he couldn’t wait to bet on the Patriots. Well, the launch will be just in time for the Super Bowl.

Besides, the governor told sportsbook pay per head reporters that he was a supporter of legal sports betting since the Supreme Court ruling on PASPA in May 2018. State lawmakers have already passed the sports wagering law that will allow the lottery to supervise the activity.

The state lottery said it received proposals from the best bookie software providers. Also, it is still on track with the timeline it released last August. It is still working through the RFP process and can’t provide more information about the sports betting launch in the state.

If everything goes according to the released timeline, pay per head services providers expect approval of the final contracts by November 20. The date is six weeks before New Year’s Day.

Once New Hampshire accepts the first bet, it will join Rhode Island as the only New England states to have legal sports wagering. New Hampshire wants to attract residents from Massachusetts to place bets in the state’s sports betting venues.

The state has around 1.4 million residents. That’s why it is targeting players from Massachusetts to generate a significant portion of its sports wagering revenue. The Boston area has one of the most feverish markets in the nation. It has teams in all major sports leagues with loyal fan bases.
