Senator Files Minnesota Sportsbook Legislation

State Senator Karla Bigham wants to make sports betting legal in Minnesota. She wants to introduce a Minnesota sportsbook legislation that would legalize betting on sports. At present, Minnesotans can bet on fantasy sports.

Also, residents can place prop bets via daily fantasy sites, such as FanDuel, DraftKings, PrizePicks, or Monkey Knife Fight. They can place bets on props because they are not wagering on actual event results. However, wagers that are systematic and commercialized are not allowed.

Senator Bigham wants to legalize traditional sports betting. Thus, gamblers can wager on actual contests and games. She told the best pay per head bookie that the proposal would legalize something already happening in the state. Also, she said that it would bring additional revenue to Minnesota.

Sportsbook pay per head providers learned that the proposed bill would allow racetracks and casinos to accept bets during the first year. After a year, players can wager remotely through casinos based in the state.

However, the proposal states that players must register and reload their accounts in person, even if they use online platforms to bet on sports. Racetracks and casinos would get six percent of the proceeds for onsite bets. Also, they would get eight percent of the online bets. The rest of the revenue would go to the state.

According to political forum users, the legislation favors the state. Operators would only get a small amount of profits. Also, betting through apps and websites not based locally would remain illegal.

Previous sports betting legalization efforts failed because lawmakers were against the idea. Also, the Minnesota Indian Gaming Association had issues with the proposals. Senator Bigham hasn’t talked with the tribal casinos and racetracks yet. Instead, she wants to file it and then discuss it with the stakeholders afterward.
