Legalizing Texas Sports Betting Can Result to New Revenue Stream for State
State lawmakers should consider legalizing Texas sports betting because it benefits all residents. Thus, there’s a push to consider legislation in the upcoming session. However, it requires a constitutional amendment via a ballot initiative.

- It would bring in tax money
- It would safeguard consumers.
Unfortunately, state laws make this impossible. Even though sports betting is legal in the United States, many Texans still choose to play it illegally through offshore platforms or by flying to other states that have it better.

Legalizing Texas Sports Betting

Making sports betting legal would be a sensible step toward regulating an existing business, protecting consumers, and rooting out unscrupulous players. According to the American Gaming Association poll, most bettors will stop using illicit sites when the state legalizes sports wagering.
Legalizing sports wagering in Texas would generate substantial revenue, which could be used for other initiatives. According to a political news forum, legalized sports betting could generate over $360 million in direct tax income for Texas and over $2.6 billion in economic output each year.
The additional $24.3 million annual nongaming tax income from legalized sports betting is a nice bonus. No more work on the part of Texans is required to generate this income. It would be the end effect of locals engaging in something they’re used to doing.
Solving High Property Tax in Texas
One of the state’s major problems is the high cost of property taxes for Texans. Sports betting might bring in more money for the government, which could be used to lower property taxes or put toward other important programs like education and infrastructure.
Texas officials frequently discuss the significance of individual autonomy. It is the people’s choice whether or not to authorize sports betting, so it is only fair that Texans have the opportunity to vote on this matter in a constitutional amendment referendum.
We can do nothing and allow other jurisdictions to reap the benefits of illicit offshore sites or include sports betting among the legitimate, regulated sectors that help our state. I think our Texas Legislature should let Texans decide for themselves, and I urge them to do just that.
