A bill to legalize sports betting in North Carolina passed a House committee last week. However, the odds are against the bill passing the full General Assembly before the end of the season. The House Commerce Committee passed Senate Bill 688 that would lead to legal NC sports betting.

It needs to pass three other committees before it reaches the House floor. SB 688 would allow mobile sports betting in North Carolina. According to a political forum, the bill would also enable sports venues to have on-site betting.

The tax rate for sports betting will be eight percent. It is one of the lowest tax rates for sports wagering in the US. Also, almost half of the states have legalized sports betting. However, Representative Jason Saine said legal sports betting still has a long way to go. According to bookie software reports, Saine was the one who pushed the bill through the Commerce Committee.

Legal NC Sports Betting

Rep. Jon Hardister, R-Guilford County, said that legislators could presently disregard that sports wagering is predominant in the state. Instead, the people who can't make it to the legal sportsbooks at the two casinos ran by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians can put down wagers through the bootleg market of seaward web-based administrators.

During the panel hearing, Ches McDowell, a lobbyist who addresses a few pro athletics associations in North Carolina, said that the state needs to stay aware of the Joneses.

Jordan Roberts, a government undertakings partner for the John Locke Foundation, told gambling software sources, the odds of SB 688 spending this year are lessening.

Yet, since the enactment has gotten the OK in the Senate, Roberts said the bill will be one of the primary acts considered during the short 2022 meeting.
